“Chase” is about a couple with
herpes and their struggle to come to terms with one another and how they feel
about not only each other but themselves as well. Our main character Caroline
is described in the beginning as being “the good one” by her ex-boyfriend,
Chase, but we learn that she has slept with at least one other man just to
spite a former friend, which makes us questions what kind of person she really
is.
Even though
this story is disturbing and details an uncomfortable situation, it was really
funny. I found myself laughing at how Caroline describes the world around her,
especially during the scene in the tattoo parlor. I know from personal
experience how disgusting some of those places can be and it your imagery was
excellent. The descriptions and made up stories of the little zombie figurines
was entertaining as well as humorous and it was a perfect fit to go along with
the event, when you’ve got a buzzing needle pouring ink into your skin, you’ll
do just about anything to occupy your mind.
I don’t
have too many complaints with the story, it felt cohesive and the characters
are well established but we don’t know what officially happened between the
couple to make them split up. Was it solely because of the herpes or were there
other contributing factors?
